Surah Al Ikhlas: Significance, Benefits and Virtues

The 112th chapter in the Quran is known as Surah Al Ikhlas. Al-Ikhlas is an Arabic word that means purity, sincerity, honesty, integrity, fidelity, and faithfulness. Also known as the Declaration of God’s Unity and Al-Tawhid, this chapter has four verses which focus on the unity of God. Unlike other Surahs, there is no designated word occurring in this Surah i.e., the word Ikhlas is not mentioned anywhere however the chapter has been given the name on the basis of its subject and meaning. 

Importance of Surah Ikhlas 

While every word of the holy Quran is salient, some chapters or parts are of greater significance than others. This preference is not personal however its evident from the hadith and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. It is believed that reciting Surah Ikhlas brings reward equivalent to reciting one-third of the Quran. The reason is that all the teachings of the Quran are fundamentally based on three principles, of which the first one is the oneness of God. Surah Al Ikhlas asserts the idea of Allah’s oneness and disapproves idol worshiping and polytheism. Thus, emphasizing that Surah Ikhlas is the basis of the religion of Islam and on the outright belief in Allah’s oneness. Muslims all over the world memorize it and anyone who recites Surah Ikhlas daily is regarded as pure. Reciting it boosts one’s perception and intelligence, and paves way for success. One gets satisfaction, unbound happiness, and solution to most personal and professional problems by reading Surah Ikhlas regularly. It is also said to prevent minor ailments and infections.

Surah Ikhlas is of eminence in the Holy Quran and holds great importance in Islamic contests. One achieves the biggest happiness in life by reciting Surah Ikhlas. Its benefits are many, some of which are listed below: 

 Protects from calamities  

Reciting of Surah Al-Ikhlas on a regular basis protects from any disaster or difficulty. One should recite Surah Al-Ikhlas with confidence that Allah will guard and protect. 

 Breaks evil spell or black magic  

Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas every day or after every prayer destroys evil spells or any black magic. 

 Forgives Sin 

Reciting of Surah Al-Ikhlas makes it easy for us to repent and thus seek forgiveness for our sins. 

 Helps achieve goals 

All desires and ideals are fulfilled and made a reality by Allah the Almighty if one reads Surah Al-Ikhlas diligently. 

 Gets a place in heaven 

As the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, meaning that a person who recites Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad ten times, Allah builds a home for him in heaven.

In order to get success in business or any venture it’s important to recite Surah Al-Ikhlas with true intentions.

 Equivalent to reading of one-third of Quran 

One of the significant benefits of reading Surah al-Ikhlas is that it is the same as reading one-thirds of the Holy Quran. 

 Eases pain of death 

If one continues to read surah al-Ikhlas in a routine, it is believed that he will be visited by the angels at the time of death. 

Thus, it is important for all Muslims to understand the significance of Surah al-Ikhlas, memorize it and recite it every day in order to receive the above mentioned rewards and benefits.         

Virtues of Surah Al Ikhlas 

 As per a scholar At-Tirmidhi and Darami, by reciting Surah Ikhlas 200 times every day, 50 years of minor sins will be forgiven. However, it doesn’t imply that any loan that is yet to be re- paid will be forgiven. And also, Allah will grant him 1500 rewards.  

One who recites Surah Al Ikhlas 1,000 times, will not die unless he sees his place in Jannat. 

As narrated by Abu Hurairah: In the two Rak’ah before the Fajr prayer, the Prophet used to recite that, disbelievers say, Allah is one. 

In a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad mentioned that when we recite Surah Fatiha and Surah Al Ikhlas while lying on the bed, you will be safeguarded, and you will become fearless of everything except death. 

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, that Aaishah reported, when the Prophet went to bed, he would cup his hands together and blow into them, he would then recite, Surah Al Ikhlas, Surah al-Falaq and Surah al-Naas. Then he would wipe his body as much as he could with his hands, starting with his head and face, and the front of his body. He would repeat this process three times. 

 All these virtues and rewards are a great reason and motivation to recite this beautiful surah from the holy book of Quran. It is a gem that reaps happiness, success, and health just by maintaining a small routine and remembering Allah with a clean and pure heart.
